Spelunky and Downwell makers team up for 50-game collection

This was done to great effect with releases such as Midway Arcade Origins which packaged 31 classic titles together and the Dreamcast Collection which, arguably, featured the console's three best games.

UFO 50 is made up of five developers and this isn't the first time that they'll be dabbling in 8-bit games or at least 8-bit looking, having released things like Spelunky, Madhouse, Skorpulac, etc.

The announcement trailer gives you a glimpse into some of the games that they're already working on (or maybe even finished).

Q. How much will UFO 50 cost? "Our goal is to combine a familiar 8-bit aesthetic with new ideas and modern game design sensibilities", reads the group game's website.

The UFO 50 team goes on to say that the games they will launch as part of this project will all be completed titles, not mini games or anything similar.

What is #UFO50? That was the question that's been on everyone's minds since Spelunky developer Derek Yu tweeted a mysterious screenshot alongside the hashtag.

A Q&A on its official site explains that these are "not microgames or minigames", saying they are slightly smaller than a typical 8-bit game from the '80s might be.

UFO 50 will be released on PC in 2018 and later to other platforms. The collection will feature both single-player and multiplayer games. It is now in development for the PC, but could come to other platforms. What's more is that the games are connected in an overarching narrative, as the premise claims that they were all created by a secret company in the 80's that was ahead of its time. The price of the title has not been announced yet.
