'Injured' Lakmal ruled out, Thirimanne recalled for Colombo Test

Lahiru Thirimanne's exile from Test cricket could come to an end in Colombo on Thursday after he was named in the Sri Lanka squad for the second game with India.

Thirimanne has been included to replace injured Asela Gunaratne, while Sandakan's inclusion a sign Sri Lanka are considering a stronger spin-bowling attack for the SSC Test.

The host skipper had missed the first Test as he was recuperating from pneumonia.

The clash on Thursday will also see the return of captain Dinesh Chandimal, who was ruled out of the opening game because of pneumonia. Sri Lanka's attack was found wanting in Galle, where India mounted 840 at a run rate of 4.5, for the loss of only 13 wickets. Herath sustained a bruise to his left middle finger while fielding on day three, and while there is no fracture, the finger is still sore and painful.

Dinesh Chandimal (capt), Angelo Mathews, Upul Tharanga, Dimuth Karunaratne, Niroshan Dickwella, Kusal Mendis, Dhananjaya de Silva, Danushka Gunathilaka, Lahiru Kumara, Vishwa Fernando, Nuwan Pradeep, Rangana Herath, Dilruwan Perera, Malinda Pushpakumara, Lakshan Sandakan, Lahiru Thirimanne.

The left-handed Thirimanne averages 24 with the bat after 26 matches in the longest format and only has one century to his name with the Sri Lanka selectors hoping his worldwide experience (107 ODIs) will help him score runs against India.
