Blach crisp against Dodgers, but Giants' bats go silent in loss

Once again, somehow the Giants came close but just couldn't get that big hit to win the game.

No reason to push anyone these days. The Dodgers' ace is now out after stiffness in his lower back forced him to leave a game last weekend after pitching just two innings.

Los Angeles Dodgers' Corey Seager rounds third base after hitting a solo home run against the San Francisco Giants in the first inning of a Major League baseball game at Dodger Stadium on Friday, July 28, 2017 in Los Angeles. Heck, they're playing almost.575 baseball and trail the Dodgers by 13 games. "We're relentless every single day".

The Diamondbacks visit the Cardinals Saturday night in a game that has all the makings of a pitcher's duel, as Zack Greinke faces off against Mike Leake. "They're a good team".

San Francisco Giants' Hunter Pence strikes out in 1st inning. With Pence coming to the plate in the sixth, Roberts chose to bring in Pedro Baez. Brock said in a statement that the diagnosis that he had conquered multiple myeloma was "the greatest news ever".

DETROIT - Ian Kinsler's bloop single to right-center field with two outs scored Jose Iglesias to finish a three-run seventh inning that helped Detroit snap a four-game losing streak. He doubled in the first and third innings off Blach. Seager also singled in the fifth for his 29th multihit game this season.

In the minor leagues, the Dodgers have good options for spot starts, and they can always move Ross Stripling into the rotation as well. The numbers say it was a curious choice; Puig has one home run and a.167 batting average against left-handers this year; 18 home runs and a.285 average against righties.

"I think we've been seeing what they look like all over the highlights for the past few months", Kontos said. "You're looking at two guys who can hurt you, do damage with slugging".

Hitters often talk of seeing pitches deep, letting them travel.

"He's a good hiiter", San Francisco starter Ty Blach said of Seager.

With that reworked delivery in July, he is 5-0 with a 1.45 ERA (five runs in 31 innings), 0.84 WHIP, 40 strikeouts and five walks while holding opposing batters to a.171 average.

Los Angeles manager Dave Roberts said, "Rich didn't have the fastball command that he usually has, but he never stopped attacking". Falling into foul ground, Turner still managed to put enough on the throw to get Span at first. He saved another run with a diving play at third.

Out since June 12 with lower back soreness, first baseman Adrian Gonzalez is one step away from a rehab stint. No timetable on a return from his back muscle strain has been announced. C Nick Hundley was scratched. Whether or not they're able to make the most of the best record in baseball is yet to be determined.

Giants: LHP Madison Bumgarner (1-4, 3.38 ERA) will start the series finale Sunday, swapping assignments with Matt Cain, who will pitch Monday night at Oakland.

Bumgarner has only made seven starts so far this season due to him being sidelined after his motorcycle incident.

The Giants could comfort themselves with the knowledge that they had the pitching to win, they have played the Dodgers tough this season - they are 6-6 against them - and they even threatened in the ninth against Kenley Jansen. Ryu comes off of a 6-4 win versus the visiting Minnesota Twins with two runs given up on five hits and three over five frames.
