The sheriff's deputies didn't file charges, but they were familiar with Hodgkinson.

Hodgkinson says her husband prepared for his trip to Washington by selling everything he owned from his home-inspection business.

His wife, Sue Hodgkinson, spoke publicly on Thursday evening for the first time since the shooting. Bernie Sanders, took a rifle and a pistol and dozens of rounds of ammo to Simpson Park in Alexandria, Virginia, Wednesday morning.

"What was he coming home for?" the reporter asked. And it was at that auto shop that his anger flared during small talk with the mechanic.

Hodgkinson was a volunteer for the Bernie Sanders presidential campaign past year and has comments on his social media accounts strongly criticizing President Trump.

"We haven't been together since March", Hodgkinson said.

"It was more than the average person who had maybe voted for Hillary". His voice got loud and deep.

House whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) was wounded by Hodgkinson. He posted rhetoric against the political party on social media. "There was nothing conspicuous about him", Duncan said Wednesday.

Hodgkinson died from his injuries in a shootout with police.

Auto mechanic Crist Dauberman told The Associated Press on Friday that James Hodgkinson erupted into an angry, profanity-laden tirade. He allegedly punched a woman who was a friend of the girl.

After getting out of a black SUV that drove down Rolling Hills Lane from the Hodgkinson home, Sue Hodgkinson stood next to a federal agent in front of a gaggle of reporters.

Law officers who've helped her family cope, say this ordeal has shaken the family to its core.

"I just don't know what to tell you people", she said.

"I think that the president contributed to this significantly", said Rep. James Clyburn of SC, the No. 3 House Democrat. Even his email address was basic: hodg@att.net. "She had no idea he felt as strong as he did", Wagner said.

She said she didn't necessarily consider his departure odd.

"I'm sorry that he did this but there's nothing I can do about it", she said.

"I've obviously noticed a very different tone, but I don't think it's helpful" to blame one side or the other, Cramer said.

On Tuesday, Hodgkinson broke his apparent silence at the garage. "I can't help you at all".

Others say things like this just don't happen where they are from.
