Man jumps into moving car to save driver having a seizure

He jumped from his truck and through the passenger window of the slowly moving auto.

"I saw him come out from behind the traffic, and he nearly hit me in my lane. Wow, my adrenaline is still going".

On Friday afternoon a Good Samaritan sprang into action and saved a driver who was having a seizure in Dixon, and a dashboard camera captured the dramatic rescue.

According to a post on the Dixon, Illinois, Police Department's Facebook page, an officer began following a blue auto on June 2 when he saw the vehicle go through a red light, narrowly missing other vehicles. Officers on patrol trailed the vehicle and turned on cruiser's emergency light.

The officers then ran up to the auto and called for paramedics to assist the driver.

The footage shows the vehicle veering out of control at low speed and onto oncoming traffic.

As the auto continued to move forward, Tompkins had to back his pickup truck out of the way to avoid a collision.

Police also commended the 39-year-old for his heroism.

One user wrote: "You are a hero!".

However, others questioned why the Dixon police officer didn't stop the vehicle himself and tried to help the driver. The local police department shared the footage and hailed the fearless man's quick-thinking act.
