Bat-Signal to light up Los Angeles in tribute to Adam West

Mayor Eric Garcetti says the Bat-Signal will be lit at L.A.'s City Hall at 9 p.m. Thursday. West has played Mayor Adam West of Quahog, Rhode Island since the second season of Family Guy and has been a regular and reoccurring character ever since.

The City of Los Angeles will honor Adam West by shining the Bat-signal onto its city hall Thursday night. Many fans and celebrities, including current Batman Ben Affleck, have already paid their respects on Twitter, referring to West as "My Batman". That show has announced they will be honoring the actor with a tribute on Sunday.

Hit animated series "Family Guy" will also be paying tribute to West this weekend with a brief tribute on Fox.

Last week the sad news broke that original Batman actor Adam West had passed away after a short and surprising battle with Leukemia. While West had an acting career that spanned decades, he was best known, and most loved, for his iconic role as the title character in the Batman TV series from 1966.

"Family Guy has lost its mayor, and I have lost a friend", he said. Fans and fellow celebrities shared pictures, stories and kind words for the late star who brought joy to millions with his take on the Caped Crusader.

West started playing Batman on TV in 1969 and did so for three seasons of the show and one movie. Two Face matches up to its affectionate nods to the past and bags of humour and provides a fitting farewell performance for Adam West.

The city of Los Angeles will come together to celebrate the life of, and pay tribute to, Batman icon Adam West.
