Bat Signal Shone In LA For Adam West

West died Friday, June 9 at his Los Angeles home after a battle with leukemia, a family spokesperson said.

The Bat-Signal will be lit at L.A.'s City Hall at 9 p.m., the mayor's office announced.

Hundreds of West and Batman fans gathered, many dressed in costumes from all of the screen iterations of the Dark Knight, as Mayor Eric Garcetti and Police Chief Charlie Beck switched on the iconic light. In the comic books and movies, the bat signal is the way the city calls on the Batman whenever it needs his help.

The West family also showed their appreciation prior to the tribute.

Adam West is beloved for his role as the campy 1960s Batman. Eastern time, Fox is now set to air an episode entitled "The Dating Game" that first aired in March, and featured a major storyline for West.

Family Guy is now on summer hiatus, but FOX will re-air an episode from earlier this season that heavily featured Mayor West. In the episode, originally broadcast back in March, Mayor West wins an auction for the Medieval Castle restaurant.

Animated comedy Family Guy will also honour West this weekend.

He said: "They've all had their time in the cape and the cowl but did anyone have more fun than Adam West?".

Burt Ward, who co-starred in the "Batman" television series, speaks at a tribute to Adam West that includes lighting a Bat-Signal at City Hall on Thursday, June 15, 2017, in Los Angeles.

"He was a great family man, a wonderful husband, a wonderful father to his kids".

Born in Walla Walla city, Washington, West began his career in the 1950's.

They said in a statement: "Our dad always saw himself as The Bright Knight, and aspired to make a positive impact on his fans" lives. "He was and always will be our hero".
