AI flight suffers tyre burst at Jammu, passengers safe

Close to 134 passengers and crew members had a close shave as Air India flight's tyre burst during landing at Jammu airport.

The incident took place when flight AI 821 took off from Delhi at around 11 am and was landing at Jammu airport at 12.15 pm, where it suffered a tyre burst. "The plane was scheduled to travel to Srinagar after picking/dropping passengers from Jammu", an official said.

"All the passengers were rescued and are safe, and all necessary procedures were followed", station director Jammu Airport V K Gautam told Mirror". By the time the plane stopped, it had skidded beyond the runway.

All incoming and outgoing flights at Jammu airport have been suspended till further orders as a precautionary measure to check damage caused to the runway in the incident.

"Our objective is to transform the public sector carrier to a great global airline and we are doing whatever possible in this regard", the Minister of State for Civil Aviation said. A team of experts are ascertaining the cause behind tyre burst.
