Hulu With Live TV App Released for iOS

Hulu launched its live under $40 TV service that includes more 50 channels Wednesday, the company announced.

What do you think of Hulu's new live TV service?

At launch, Hulu Live TV is available in the US.

As Vulture points out, the Hulu bundle lacks AMC Networks (AMCX) channels and Viacom (VIAB)-owned MTV, Comedy Central and VH1. The company said additional premium network add-ons will become available soon.

With its live service, Hulu is joining a crowd of streaming skinny bundles being offered at prices that suggest a razor thin profit margin for distributors.

Hulu previously announced it will have services from its owners - Disney, Fox, Comcast's NBCUniversal, and Time Warner - as well as CBS and A+E Networks.

With the move to launch a live television experience, the company takes on not only cable television, but also a slew of services offering television over the Internet, including YouTube, Dish, AT&T and PlayStation. Users can watch Hulu with Live TV on Android and iOS smartphones and tablets, along with the fourth-generation Apple TV and the Xbox One.

The original Cable Cutter service just clapped back in a big way. Features: • Create up to 6 personalized profiles for the whole household.

As expected, the service is priced at $39.99 per month and includes access to all content that comes with a traditional $8/month Hulu subscription. The service, which costs $39.99 a month, is available in beta today. Sports fans can watch and record games!

The Kids mode will also carry over to the new app, which is where parents will find a curated selection of Hulu's kid-friendly programming.

And of course there are mods to that baseline package. Everything is mixed in with TV channels, but Hulu is suggesting that it can smartly make your favourite shows or channels appear first.

Want to know more about video and TV market trends? This is definitely a great new addition the Hulu family, and you can download the new app offering from the company right now for free from Apple's App Store. The basic package also includes 50 hours of program storage and two simultaneous streams, so multiple people can watch various live feeds at once; power users will be able to pay extra for a more sophisticated DVR-like option with 200 hours of storage.

Also running for $14.99/month, the Unlimited Screens add-on removes the simultaneous screens cap for any devices in the home, and allows up to three screens to be active at once while out and about.

Overall, Hulu's new live TV package is one of the most compelling out there.

"We have always believed that TV should fit your lifestyle, not the other way around", said Ben Smith, Hulu's SVP and Head of Experience.
