Easter message available to all

During the Easter season Jesus is highlighted more by churches than at any other time of year other than maybe Christmas.

There are lots of reasons why it was set up this way. There are people who are visiting family, college students are home, shut ins make a special effort because it is Easter. Something new is happening.

Christians have a different view of the world - and a different sense of their goal in life - than non-Christians. Second, Easter doesn't have a specific date.

Easter celebrations are preceded by the 40 days of Lent, a time of abstinence and penance.

"It overpowers even death and because of Christ's Resurrection from the dead, we too are given the gift of Life Eternal". The fundamental question is how do we see the continuing presence of the risen Lord in our reality? In the 19th chapter of the Gospel of John, verse 30, it is written: "So when Jesus had tasted it, He said, 'It is finished!' Then he bowed his head and released his spirit".

Many Russian citizens visit cemeteries on Easter Sunday - the day of Jesus Christ's resurrection - to pay tribute to their late ancestors. The greatest way we can do that is to do what the first disciples did. It is equally horrifying to see Boko Haram's treatment of Christians, especially young Christian women, in Nigeria, and to witness the countless atrocities committed by radical Islamist groups. Any person who chooses to follow Jesus receives "a new birth into a living hope". You're on your own to face the consequences for all the "stuff" in your life.

In his message the chief minister said, "This is an auspicious occasion when we celebrate the crucifixion of Jesus and resurrection on Easter Sunday which are manifestations of the triumph of good over evil".

' The death of Jesus to pay a debt he did not owe, for the salvation of you and I, is the ultimate story of a second chance at redemption.

"As families attend Mass on Easter Sunday and come together for barbecues and Easter egg hunts, we come to realize how truly blessed we are". God's blessings and graces await each of us, but we must do our part to receive them.

"In addition, we urge all Christians in Nigeria to use the Easter celebrations to reflect and pray for Nigeria's continuous unity and peaceful coexistence", Makarfi said in a statement signed by the committee's spokesman, Prince Dayo Adeyeye.
